When it comes to Hong Kong... your experience isn't complete until you go camping and visit their famous ocean park amusement park.

Camping

A group of exchange students and I decided to go camping at Tai Long Wan, one of the most secluded spots in Hong Kong. The spot can be found on the east coast of Sai Kung and is made up of 4 beaches you can camp on.

In order to get to Tai Long Wan:

  1. Take the MTR's Kwong Tong line to Choi Hung

  2. Head to exit C1 and take the green minibus 1A to Sai Kung Town (30-minute drive)

Once you've arrived at Sai Kung Town you have a couple of options:

  1. Take a taxi to Sai Wan Pavilion (recommended)

  2. Take minibus 29R to Sai Wan Pavilion

  3. A speedboat from Sai Kung Town directly to one of the beaches (Sai Wan or Ham Tin)

    1. for options 1 & 2 you will need to hike ~30 minutes to arrive to the beach

    2. Option 3 will cost around $120 to $150 HKD per person.

Ocean Park

Ocean Park is another must-see when studying abroad in Hong Kong. The theme park offers roller coaster rides, shows, tours, an aquarium, and great events throughout the year (ex: Halloween). I would recommend obtaining an annual pass (ask for a student discount) so you can go multiple times throughout the semester. Furthermore, make sure to go on a weekday so you can avoid the 2+ hour wait times.

Some of my most notable experiences at Ocean park included seeing a walrus for the first time, seeing pandas for the first time, winning prizes at their game booths, and their roller coasters.
